Whole idea behind microtransactions is based on this assumption - small, infrequent but regular spendings add up to much larger sum than any initial purchase you could get. It's much easier to get someone to spend $20 every two months to buy a cool (better than previous ones) skin for their character, than to even get them to spend $60 on few skins at once. For long-term profits, you need to remember most players have limited funds they can spend on games, and to maximize profit per player, you'd rather tap into their wallets repeatedly and somewhat regularly, rather than trying to cash in immediately. For cashing in fast they'd surely be better releasing multiple different/varied skins on release and watching players spend on those - including ones that will quit the game in short time. What makes a difference here is whether they want to make as much as possible now vs have a reliable steady source of income from the game. Saying Amazon must know what they're doing because it's Amazon is an argument from authority, a kind of fallacy. I do understand the benefits of diluting content over time though, but people whose interest wasn't caught immediately are unlikely to come back one the hype around the game dies down. On a related note, not having female warriors or male mages for example also make many players not willing to try the game, and I personally don't expect them to know how to handle skins and content release properly if they don't realize that simple fact. Some people will quickly lose interest in the game if they don't improve character customization. Amazon recently detailed everything coming to Lost Ark before 2023 in a detailed content roadmap.I see no one really understands profit or how to make money.īecause you think releasing one skin per major patch, even though the game is currently starving for skins and players all look the same is the best way to make money? We're at the other end of the spectrum, you can't release skins slower than that. Next month, the Summoner Advanced class will join Lost Ark's class roster alongside two new raids. The Reaper is one of two new classes coming to Amazon and Smilegate RPG's free-to-play MMORPG before the end of the year. The class's arrival brings with it a Hyper Express Event as well, where players will be able to earn extra upgrade maetrials to quickly reach item level 1,445.
